What is a double bet?
A double is a single bet on two selections, both of which must win. Your first winner's full return is automatically staked on the second, so a double pays far more than two separate singles — the flip side being that if either horse loses, the whole bet loses.
My Daily Double pairs the two shortest-priced horses I also rate top of their race — the ones most likely to actually win — so it lands as often as possible. It's a bit of fun for a bigger day, but I don't dress it up as profit: like most short-priced multiples it runs around break-even, and the one selection my data shows a genuine edge on remains the Nap.
